Double Threat
Think Drizzy Drake is the only young rapper with singing ability to match his rapping skills?
I think the most talented new singer/emcee I’ve heard hails from Lupe’s FNF crew. (*not saying dude’s better than Drake. he’s just a much better singer)
His name was Gemini, and now it’s Gemstones(?). Jeez, could’ve come out nicer with a less terrible stage name, but that’s besides the point.
He’s been lowkey featured on a bunch of Lupe’s songs, taking up a lot of the melodic responsibilities from two of my all-time favorites, Food and Liquor and The Cool. I was taken aback at dude’s singing talent when I first saw Lupe and his fellow Chicagoans perform live.
Check this out for an audio history of Gemini/Gemstones:
He’s been trying to jump start his own career for the past couple of years, but his album has been delayed for a while now. This is the best that I thought he’s put out on the internet so far.
And although they have their moments, the songs aren’t amazing, but I’m expecting much more in the future.
“This year for me been rough Lord, see me through
hope you reserve a place in your kingdom for me too
Earth is just the temporary place that we meet you
both my grannies passed away and they believed in you
and there’s gon come a day when they gon R.I.P me too
lyin in my casket, dressed up in a three-piece suit
I know I gotta be prepared so I seek your truth
as I talk to you in my prayers, may my speech be proof
forgive me for my sins and hope my deeds lead me through”
